Carhartt’s urban front, ‘Work in Progress,‘ delivers an insane compilation marking 10 years of beats, provided by Cologne’s ‘Melting Pot Music,’ and distribution, provided by Berlin’s HHV. This goody bag provides for every mood whether it’s influenced by Hip Hop, Funk, Jazz or Soul…and even a fresh take of The Simpson’s intro which in my ears is next level! With ‘Ekne Prenz’ starting things off with vibes smoother than a smoothie, it’s not long until shit kicks off with a Hendrix infused beat by Fid Mella, an absolute banger! The rest is for your ears but if want to be picky, personal stand outs come from the latter two, Figub Brazlevic, Brenk Sinatra and the Hade x DWFL edit of Aaliyah - One in a Million.
Seriously hard to pick any loser out of this selection. It strikes the perfect balance of beats, instrumentals and vocals, and if I could only understand German, I’m sure Aphroe’s tribute to Nas’ ‘NY State of Mind’ does it plenty justice. Cop that!
“10 years in the name of beats, grooves, and sample science: Melting Pot Music celebrates its anniversary with party nights in Cologne and Berlin.
Time is running and passing - a decade gone in a flash and Colognes finest label at the interface between HipHop, Soul, Funk, Jazz, and exceptional beat science fete their anniversary together with Berlin’s finest vinyl and cloth’ dealer HHV - who also celebrates 10 years of existence.
