Scuba - 6th Form

Download: Scuba - 6th Form (.mp3)
I came across the Modyfier blog by chance this evening but I’m glad I did. From what I undersand, it’s a blog/podcast, in which each episode someone makes a mixtape or posts a tune, whilst writing about their musical inspirations and selections in a candid, personal way that you don’t often see. Then that person passes the responsibility on to someone else they respect to continue the chain. Nice idea.
Last week this responsibility was passed on to man-of-the-moment Scuba, who posted up a tune called ‘6th Form’. It might not be exactly what people would expect from him, but the reason for his posting ‘6th Form’ was the fact it reflects a child-like willingness to embrace melody, as he did when he first began making music. This creative freedom which can be stifled when adhering to the often strict rules of dance music, seems to be something the blog attempts to embrace as well.
The piece makes for a fascinating read as the head of Hot Flush talks about various things, including the challenges of doing an LP, and the influence the Autonomic podcasts have had on him.
And of course, you can download the track for free!
There have been close to 200 episodes so far, so plenty to check out!
