Alpha Pup today relaunched their website for 2010 and so I felt it was relevant to post up one of the great tracks they have on offer on the site and one of my personal faves! I would already hope most of you have Nosaj Thing’s ‘Drift’ album, but if not here is one of it’s highlights, Coat of Arms’. Insane bass (try hearing this in plastic people on full blast, will almost shake your heart out of your mouth!) and an incredible track I think you’ll all agree. Been feeling Free the Robots’ beats for a couple of years now, if you haven’t heard the name check his Free the Robots EP and also his joint EP with Gaslamp Killer for some banging beats. Anyway, he has an upcoming release on Alpha Pup records and they have been kind enough to give away the first single for free. It’s quite different to the older stuff I’ve heard from him but still dope none the less, give it a listen init!

Take aka Sweatson Klank has been one of my favourite music makers of the last few years. A great live set which I got to enjoy whilst out in LA and at various nights in the UK as well as some incredible releases have made his music a must in my iTunes and on deck. From the forthcoming Take album entitled ‘Only Mountain’  comes a preview track entitled ‘Neon Beams’ (dropping on Alpha Pup in April).

The title says it all really. Luminous synths scatter, split and collide with arpeggiated bass, as crunchy, rusty breaks and hats skid out of control over pulsating LFOs. ‘Neon Beams’ has a controlled madness which is as beautiful as it is overpowering.

This is some serious future funk right here. I’ve not heard anything else from ‘Only Mountains’ yet, but Neon Beams has me buzzing in anticipation.

Alpha Pup have really used their new website well, they have so much great information on artists but also have so much great free content! Today they just put up a free track from The Gaslamp Killer’s ‘My Troubled Mind EP’, which dropped on Brainfeeder last August. If you haven’t seen a GLK show before, you’ve not lived - check it out and scope his other music while you’re at it!

Young Montana may be the best thing to happen to Coventry since Lady Godiva or at least the only thing worth paying attention to! I know I’m maybe a little late on this one but it’s so good, I have been listening to it constantly for the past few weeks and managed to find it online for free today here. Such a good track, you’re gonna be hearing a lot more from this guy with releases set on Alpha Pup hopefully sooner than later!

Dibiase - Lumberjack

You know we love Dibiase, so we we’re juiced to see that Alpha Pup have dropped this free mp3 of ‘Lumberjack’ which is featured on his first full release titled Machines Hate Me’. Can’t wait for this one to drop!

“Machines Hate Me” represents the most complete and fully realized iteration of Dibiase’s work. Lead single “Lumberjack” leans toward his psychedelic soul side, creating an orchestral maze more reminiscent of J Dilla than a flannel-clad forest dweller (presumably, it derived its name from his facility at chopping samples.) Yet it reflects only one facet of the producer, with the full-length fleshing him out further as a California cognate to Hyperdub’s Ikonika — one of the best at creating soundtracks that balance between the futuristic and the days when saving the princess was your primary concern. Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder imprint is putting out some of the best music at the moment and seem to be snapping up the most amazing beat heads, artists and musicians to drop albums, Teebs is the next producer set to have a release on the label and this is a sample for you all to hear! His new Ardour album is set to drop on the 19th of October and this track happens to be the lead single, titled ‘Why Like This?’. We have both had a listen to the full album and first impressions are top notch, really beautiful music, definitely a favorite of ours for the year already!

Ardour was made during two major periods of Teebs’ life. Having just lost his job and with little to no money, Teebs moved into the same apartment complex as Flying Lotus and shared living quarters with another Brainfeeder affiliate, Samiyam. It was here that the beginning stages and one-half of Ardour were created. Before Teebs was aware his album was showing itself, his father who had been terminally ill, passed away. He moved back home and stopped making music. After an arduous period where he ceased work on the album altogether, Teebs was able to regain focus and finish the album at home.
