Jus Wan - Hotflush Podcast 5

I really like dubstep, but I also really hate it at the same time. It’s expanding so quickly that a lot of it is becoming saturated and stale.. I guess this is always a problem with any ‘in’ genre. But that’s not to say there aren’t some incredible sounds appearing each week which are pushing boundaries in the way that Hot Flush are showcasing. I think I could safely say that Jus Wan’s - Action Potential is in my top 3 dubstep tracks ever and if you are also into that track you will love this latest mix. Coming on a deep techy vibe this mix is without doubt going to get you grooving. All the previous Hot Flush mixes are seriously fresh as well, so don’t miss another by subscribing on their site. Enjoy!

We cannot credit XLR8R enough for all the dope music they post up and today is no different. Check this full 320kbps mp3 of Emika - Drop the Other, remixed by the one and only Scuba. Awesome deep, techy, dubstep makes for a beautiful listen.

Scuba - Before

Download: Scuba - Before

It’s safe to say Scuba is one of the most influential artists in the dubstep / garage / techno scene right now and his new album Triangulation is only days away from dropping! His first album has had hundreds of plays on my ipod and I am personally a big fan. It’s therefore a nice treat to see that XLR8R has posted up a fresh 320kbps download of ‘Before’, one of the tracks on the new album! Keep an eye out for this one people, gonna be big.

Foals - Spanish Sahara (Mount Kimbie Remix)

So Foals are pretty good as far as all that guitar lark goes. And as I was going through my soundcloud I spotted this little beauty of a remix from those lads Mount Kimbie (via Fabric). Their first couple EPs on Hot Flush have been works of beauty, and this remix shows there’s more to come.

Mount Kimbie’s melancholic melodies are at times reminiscent of Burial’s bleek soundscapes, but they infuse just enough hope to tempt you back from the ledge and reconsider things. And if there’s anything that’s worth stepping back from ledge for, it’s a free mp3!

Scuba - 6th Form

I came across the Modyfier blog by chance this evening but I’m glad I did. From what I undersand, it’s a blog/podcast, in which each episode someone makes a mixtape or posts a tune, whilst writing about their musical inspirations and selections in a candid, personal way that you don’t often see. Then that person passes the responsibility on to someone else they respect to continue the chain. Nice idea.

Last week this responsibility was passed on to man-of-the-moment Scuba, who posted up a tune called ‘6th Form’. It might not be exactly what people would expect from him, but the reason for his posting ‘6th Form’ was the fact it reflects a child-like willingness to embrace melody, as he did when he first began making music. This creative freedom which can be stifled when adhering to the often strict rules of dance music, seems to be something the blog attempts to embrace as well.

The piece makes for a fascinating read as the head of Hot Flush talks about various things, including the challenges of doing an LP, and the influence the Autonomic podcasts have had on him.

And of course, you can download the track for free!

There have been close to 200 episodes so far, so plenty to check out!

Scuba - So You Think You’re Special

With his album Triangulation dropping this week, it seems Scuba is giving away yet another wicked track from the hotly anticipated album.

As I can’t put it any better, I’ll quote the RCDLBL guys who say the track is “more Phil Collins than dubstep, all slow, gated drums and ephemeral sunrise melancholy. Regardless of what it “is,” it’s also excellent”.

If you like what you hear, make sure to pick up the album. It really will be money well spent. Big up Paul Rose and Hot Flush for an accomplished, beautiful album.
