The guys over at the amazing Unlooped have outdone themselves with this one, a rework of Don’t Cry by J Dilla… featuring a string quartet! I’ve missed posting a lot of treats up this week seeing as I’ve been doing 14 hour days at a new job and Rich is AWOL still, but this one just had to get posted up.
The track is part of “Versus” Last year, a series where Unlooped gathers different Milwaukee artists together and take on and re-interpret a major, influential artist’s music catalog with an electronic twist. I’m seriously excited for what’s to come in the future.

Didn’t have a chance to post this the other day when I first copped it, but after having a few days listening it seemed mad to skip it all together. In the past we have featured Mecca:83 for his awesome EP ‘The Life Sketches’ and this one did not disappoint either. As usual it’s full of delightful instrumental hip-hop beats and lots of vibes, plus if you’re generous enough to donate all of proceeds will be going to charity. A UK talent to watch, someone we need to be getting up on NTS in the future as well..

Some of my favorite music of 2011 came in the form of Abjo’s Sankofa EP. So as you do I had to check this latest release out as well which is made up of some Brazilian inspired beats and vibes. As you would expect it’s full of top quality music, personal favorite being The Jam Session, Part Dois, which carries on from the Sankofa EP. I highly recommend you peep this!

Rasson is an artist from West Covina, CA. While attending the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, he was a host and DJ on jazz station 91.5 KUNV. He was also a member of the hip hop group Mob Zombie. While with the group, he recorded with Georgia Anne Muldrow and Declaime, and performed with Guru (Gangstarr), Talib Kweli, and countless others. Now back in his hometown in So Cal he’s embarked on a new musical journey, focusing on beatmaking, releasing remixes, and deejaying. The New World E.P. reflects his passion for experimenting with beats and pushing his own boundaries…
