YSK#16 Bwana - Bwana EP

Download: Bwana - Bwana EP

Today’s You Should Know is this lovely slice of future garage/post dubstep (or whatever name that genre is going by today) from Bwana, free courtesy of Infinite Machine. The opening track ‘You Never Stop’ perfectly showcase’s Bwana’s talent and he starts as he means to go on, we’re loving the stretching metal sounds along with pitched vocals and blips.

Bwana is going to be a big name to keep an eye on, his ‘Baby, Let Me Finish’ track is amazing and will be a definite a floor filler when it eventually drops! Also he’s recently moved to Leeds, so UK heads keep your ears open for live dates!

YSK#15 Naive Machine - Basket Bass Beat Tape

Download: The Naive Machine - Basket Bass Beat Tape

This is as much a we should have known as it is a You Should Know. I stumbled across this amazing beat tape yesterday after Naive Machine was mentioned in a tweet to us. This beat tape is a nice slice of glithcy 8-bit synths and bouncing beats. The stand out tracks for me are ‘Retro Return’ and ‘Busting the Ghosts…’ a funky reworking of the Ghostbusters theme, definitely a few tracks to play out here! He also has a new EP set for release soon on Hit and Hope Records and the first single off that is also a free download! Another bangin’ track, can’t wait to hear the full EP when it drops.

YSK#14 Com Truise - Pyragony & Cyanide Sisters

Download: Com Truise - Pyragony

Download: Com Truise - Cyanide Sisters

This should really have been a normal post but for some reason I forgot to post this even though It’s been one of my favorite things of 2010. So today I’m posing up some Com Truise heat as a ‘You Should Know’, as you really should by now!

I guess this post is also relevant as it was only recently that he was picked up by Ghostly as their latest addition to an already incredible lineup of artists. His first track to come out was an extended version of Cyanide Sisters on the Ghostly compilation and no doubt there are plenty more to follow.

When trying to describe the music words almost pass me by, but this shit is basically incredible. For the most part it’s like slow funk synthtastic epicness? Really it’s very unique and 80’s sounding but I can’t put it under one genre. Some of the tracks have a more IDM feel, some a more beat style makeup, either way these two releases alone are off the chain. Tracks like Pyragony will pretty much leave you with your jaw open, it’s beautiful music at it’s finest.

Although he has been making music under different aliases for quite a while now, I think Com Truise is going to be a big hit in 2011, check out the tunes, pretty sure you’re going to love them if you’ve not already checked them out, enjoy.

YSK#13 Mark Aubert - Day Reset

Download: Mark Aubert - Day Reset

Been a while since I did a You Should Know post, but today after listening back to some classic Mark Aubert beats I decided it had to be done.

This album dropped originally in 2008, and I first heard some of the beats in old online mixes, ‘Tomorrow comes again’ and ‘Black Cloud Over My Head’ being standout tracks for me from that period. This album has incredible and unique feel to it, beautiful beats, raw, stylish and something you can listen to over and over again. Some of the sampling and styles remind me a bit of S.Maharba, which may be a coincidence that he featured tracks in his mixes and they both have releases on Sassbologna Records. To be honest though I could ramble on all day about this guys music but basically you should check it out for yourself.

There are two other LP’s up for free on his bandcamp which have been released since Day Reset and I have included them below after the jump, starting with the oldest, through to the newer releases from 09 and 10.

Very much looking forward to more stuff from Mark Aubert, enjoy the music.

YSK#12 Comfort Fit - Forget and Remember LP

Download: Comfort Fit - Forget and Remember LP

We’ve been slacking on You Should Know’s recently, but we were lucky enough to be sent Comfort Fit’s Polyshufflez Remix album on Tokyo Dawn, which is full of bangers… you should grab it. Anyway, that reminded me of this gem, which is free to download on Comfort Fit’s site, this is a full length album and is has countless dope beats on it… so yeah, grab it if you haven’t got it already!

Also check out more free Comfort Fit treats here!

YSK#11 Dert - Talk Strange

Download: Dert - Talk Strange

This is without doubt one of the best thing’s I’ve heard in 2009! Dert is a genius when it comes to chopping and slicing in a remix fashion and this download proves that once again. Talk Strange is 17 tracks sampling original tunes and remixes by Bjork and although using samples sounds totally original and fresh to the ear. The anchor beat has to be my favorite track off this album, let us know what you think with a comment! Also as a bonus here is a beat tape he made using Dark Side of the Moon samples as well as I know you will be itching for more after hearing this!

YSK#10 Cuthead - Murdoc

Download: Cuthead - Murdoc

This weeks You Should Know comes from German based producer, Cuthead. His album Murdoc was given out for free last year and has been receiving constant plays by me ever since! Mixing both beats and dubstep it’s on a similar vibe to Danny Breaks so is a must for any fans of him! My particular favorite tracks are Scissorhands and Jacques Cousteau, but all of it is good so check it out!

YSK#9 The Rub - History Of Hip-Hop

Download: The Rub - History Of Hip-Hop 1993

(Read more below on for all download links)

I grew up listening to hip-hop in the nineties, I loved it then and I still love it now. The Rub’s 21 installment ‘History of Hip-Hop Series’ puts together the best songs of a select year into one mix and brings back plenty of memories with great mixing and the best tunes. The Rub also has a weekly radio show on Brooklyn Radio which is well worth checking out with plenty for mix’s and downloads. All the links included are direct to the mixes but check this page out on their site for full track listings. My personal favorite is 1993.. what’s yours?!

YSK#8 Bullion - Pet Sounds (In The Key of Dee)

Download: Bullion - Pet Sounds (In The Key of Dee)

A fresh You Should Know for this weekend and it’s a classic for sure. We both went down and caught him at Plastic People last week, but I must say it was this release which first introduced me to Bullion. The release dropped online in 2007 and fuses The Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds with J Dilla style beats and I could ramble on about how good it is for hours.. but I wont. Instead I suggest you just check it out and trust me on this one!

Note from Bullion: Our remix is just for fun. This is not for further reproduction, replication, public performance, sale or hire. We recommend you purchase the original LP by the Beach Boys, which is on-sale in all good record stores. (Discogs)
