We have covered some of Mr Beatnicks tunes before on YSK, so you will know I am a big fan. Yesterday he sent out a very generous .rar file containing not one, not two but around 30 tracks!

The tracks themselves have been crafted up at some point during the last ten years which shows how long this man has been in the game. Amongst them you’ll hear the vocals of Ahu, Fatima, Amp Fiddler and Hey Zeus, remixes of Marvin Gaye, Phat Kat and Diamond D, as well as some drafts that never got finished. Some have been released, some are still unreleased, some came out on limited vinyl and never on digital. You are lucky people, download and enjoy and be sure to hit him up if you dig what you hear!

Big Mister Doom - Avant

I’d never heard of Big Mister Doom, a duo of electronic producers from Leeds, until earlier today when them gem came through the e-mails. I’m really feeling this track, which reminds me a little of edit’s first album mixed with a little Mount Kimbie and various other artists of that nature along the way, and have been playing it all day. They have their first EP coming out in the coming months so check it out when it drops! Also check this remix of an Eskimo Twins track.

Mount Kimbie are one of our favourite acts at the moment and we’ve been following them religiously since the release of their Maybes EP early last year. They release their debut album ‘Crooks and Lovers’ tomorrow on Hotflush Recordings and we were lucky enough to recieve a promo copy.

The album has been on constant rotation and got me through a dissertation and some revison! There is not a bad track across the whole album and it has quite a varied range of styles, from more club based anthems like ‘Blind Night Errand’ to tracks like ‘Carbonated’ which sounds like it could have been lifted off the duo’s first EP. ‘Field’ (the track we have been allowed to feature as a free download for you lucky people) is quite different from any other track off the album and has a steady build up before it gets going with the usual Mount Kimbie goodness which weve grown to love! If you’re a fan of the Mount Kimbie sound I’d definately recommend you purchase the album when it drops tomorrow, you wont be disappointed!

This next post is a true ‘You’ll Soon Know’. Pedestrian is coming through with beats like nobody’s business right now and has recently had his first Radio 1 airplay courtesy of Gilles Peterson with his track ‘Led astray’.

I don’t want to call it dubstep, but I guess it is dubstep with a mix of future garage and downtempo beats. It’s some seriously beautiful music you must check out! Keep an eye out for his remix of Commix’s ‘How you gonna feel’, coming on their Re:call to mind album in October, as well as an exclusive mix for YSK in the coming weeks!

I’ve been a big fan of the Bulgarian duo 1000 Names for a while, so when I saw this interview & mix on K-mag today I had to check it out. It features tunes from some of our favored artists such as fLako, DZA, Nino, Machine Drum as well as many more, and rolls in at almost an hour long. Some nice beats and interesting electronic vibes and mixing as you would expect from these guys, enjoy and be sure to check out their releases.

“When it comes to discussion of the current beat scene there are certain creative hubs that you can expect to come up, be it LA, Glasgow or London. Bulgaria is most likely not the first place that would come to mind. However, we would do well to remember that it is individuals that create great music, not scenes.”
